Silsden Knights 1 - Westwood Dolphins 7
By Mark Reynard
Silsden Knights were taught a footballing lesson today, as a well organised Westwood side showed us a lesson in playing as a team.
To be fair the boys battled well, and I can't fault them for getting stuck in and trying to match our opponents.
We kept the score down for most of the game, and with a great goal scored by Joey Van Suilichem we were at one point level and had chances to score and take the lead.
But Westwood played some great football, and their movement was fluid from start to finish, they kept their well and passed the ball around nicely.
As our boys tired, the goals kept coming.
Jack Gill, Ronan Rhodes, and Todd D'Arcy tried there best to keep them out, but Westwood were clinical.
But we have to learn from this.
1. Why did we lose 7-1, in a game like this ?
A. We were tired.
2. Why were we tired ?
A. Because you cannot chase the ball for that length of time, and when you have the ball you need to move it by passing.
The boys need to work hard in training and listen, they are making it hard for themselves.
First thing they need to learn is shape, and why sticking to positions is important.
2nd Control. Get the ball under control first, and because we have no shape, controlling and moving the ball is practically impossible.
3rd, pass the ball, no player can run with the ball no matter how good he is, quicker than a ball can be passed, simple so pass pass pass. Passing the ball around tires the other team, running with ball tires yourself.
Get these 3 simple things sorted and we never lose 7-1, more likely win 7-1.
So back to basics,Tuesday, lesson 1, shape.
Rant over. See you at training, mouths shut, ears open.
We will get there, come on. :)
