Although this was the last of the season, this was a game of many, many firsts.
Matt Lowe turned up early for a change.
Then it got even better because Mark Dobbs won his first toss of the season. And it got better still because we finally batted first. After being told by everyone during the warm up that we should’ve bowled first, Mark’s decision turned out to be the correct one.
After facing some very good bowling from the opposition’s young team, Silsoe battled to an under-par 125. Or was it?
Silsoe took to the field. We suspected it might be our day when Mark Dobb’s took a catch… and nearly knocked himself out in the process. Probably due to his amazement.
Silsoe equalled the opposition’s tight bowling and pinned the opposition back, bowling them out for 95.
Mark Wilko’s first game back after injury saw a sharp pair of hands behind the stumps and the other 10 players matched him in the field. Many graduates of the “Mark Dobbs Fielding Academy” were on show.
Honourable mentions must be given to Brendon Kemp, who put on a good show despite being a bit ropey from the night before. Also to the ice cream man, who hopefully becomes a regular stop off next season. There were many others, but because I’m so late in writing this report I’ve forgotten what they were.
It also marked the last game in my [Matt Lowe] first season with Silsoe CC. When Mark Dobbs ran over to me at my first training session, with his knee caps dipped in emulsion, I wondered what type of club this was…
It turned out to be a cracking village cricket team. Thanks for a great first season, onwards and upwards.
See you at the end of season dinner on Sat, 6 Nov!
Another Curry night anyone?
