Midweek Vikings round 2.
The midweek Vikings was Thursday playing their second game in the cup with coach Crone looking to continue his winning streak against the Iberians Football Club. The warmups gave perhaps a little sign of what was to come for the Viking as the lights went out twice just before game start. Which meant a small delay before the game got started. Coach had for today’s game chosen a 4-5-1 formation to try and win the battle on the midfield with an expectation of the Spanish side coming out in full attack mode. With new guys Jason and Joe manning the middle to try and overpower the small paella boys.
As the game finally got underway the Spanish did as foreseen come out, full speed with their best Barcelona impression showing some good passing, and their best speedy Gonzales on the top, putting the Vikings under pressure from the start. After a few warning shots the Iberians capitalized on their good passing game to bring them ahead 2-0 after 10 mins with chances for more but some good saves from Poulsen in goal and a little help from the crossbar stopped them from further. At the 20 min water break tactics were adjusted plus a few subs which helped the Vikings get more into the game. Having a few good chances on counter attacks. 2-0 at half though with the Vikings still believing that another upset win could be within reach.
In the second half the Viking kept working hard to try and keep the Iberians out of goal range while still trying to counter them. But as the time went on the Vikings started to get tired while the Spanish just kept pushing. Leading them to quickly score to 3-o and 4-0. Which stopped all hopes of a Viking comeback. The final goal was scored on an incredible long shot with no chances for keeper Poulsen bringing the final score of the game to 6-0 for the Iberians which unfortunately also ended Coach Crones winning streak. A great effort from the whole team was made making the Iberians work hard for the better part of the game but we were simply overmatched by a better team on the day. The spirit after the game was good despite the result, knowing it was not a shame losing to a team this good on the night. Good luck to the Iberians in their further cup aspirations and thanks to the ref. for a good and fair performance.
