1937-2020

It is with great sadness yesterday that we heard that one of the United faithful followers had sadly passed away
After watching Skelmersdale United for a number of years Bob Hadwin joined the Board of Directors in 1976, along with Stan West, Harry Bullen and Billy Barr.
Club Chairman Paul Griffiths who broke the news, was devastated “I had known Bob for a very long time, on our first meeting I could tell he was a Gentleman and a man of passion not just for Skelmersdale United but football in general, his knowledge was second to non. The club will be a sorry place without him, I for one will miss him dearly”

Bob helped United move from the Lancashire Combination to the North West Counties before stepping down, but not away. He remained a staunch supporter for over 45 years, always there to help out and was involved in the Youth and Academy teams from the days at White Moss Park, always willing the lads on from the sidelines.
Dom Finnigan remembers Bob, “from coming through the turnstiles as a kid at White Moss Park, to managing the Youth team almost twenty years later and see his enthusiasm for the game was the same as it was all them years ago, very supportive of all the young lads and helped any which way he could”
-----------
Respected by Players, Directors and supporters alike, Bob will be remembered as a friendly face at Stormy Corner, good for a natter, and some terrible jokes.
Skipper of the Title winning side Tom Hardwick “genuinely one the of the nicest blokes I came across in non league.
Bob always had time for the players, and was respected by the players. We used to have some laughs with him trying to say a few of the lads names though”
Former Director and long time supporter Tony Brown said “He will go down in history for his quips and silly jokes and someone who would put the world of football to rights but most of all his knowledge of youth football is where he’ll be missed”
Long serving player Ian Price “Bob is one of those people you immediately think of whenever you think of Skem Utd. Always seemed to be at the club and always had time for a chat.”
Supporter Lorraine Russell “Bob was a lovely man, always made time to speak to everyone“
-----------
Bob was roped into doing the Match day announcements at White Moss Park, a job he was not comfortable with but soon grew to love the job, many an afternoon he had us in stiches when trying to pronounce some of the players names.

Club Secretary Linda Boardman remembers Bob from the clubs days at White Moss Park “when we played Bradford Park Avenue at White Moss Park and Bob was doing the announcing. Unfortunately, 10 out of the 11 Bradford players had foreign sounding names and Bob couldn't pronounce them. He appeared out of the boardroom complete with the microphone and shouted 'Is someone having a ###### laugh or what?' Of course the Mike was still on!!! Priceless memories, matches won't be the same without him.”

Bob also had the habit of using his binoculars to see who scored and occasionally leaving his microphone on while saying "who scored then?" All added to his charm. he continued his role whilst we were based in Prescot and again helped out with duties when we returned to Skem.

Former players where quick to pay tribute to Bob
Robbie Holcroft “I loved Bob. Such a lovely kind man, who always had time for anyone. My fondest memory was watching him driving his taxi across the White Moss Park pitch pulling a roller.”
Brian Holmes, “Bob was Skem through and through and a real gentleman.”
Ryan Wade “One of the best and most knowledgeable people in football”
Robbie McIntosh “Bob was true football fan and loved Skem. great fella will be missed.”

Tributes poured in from Club Members, former club Chairman Arthur Gore said of Bob “It is with deep regret that I heard the news of Bob's passing. Bob was SUFC through and through and his football integrity was very much valued.”
Director Norman Fenney said of Bob “A true gentlemen, and never failed to have a joke ready. A real supporter in good and bad times. Bob will be missed by all those that knew him”
We here at Skem send our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends
