RICHARD BRODIE

Skelmersdale United’s talismanic front man Richard Brodie has stepped down from his player/coach role at Skelmersdale United.

Richard a twice Conference National winner with Crawley & Fleetwood and has two Wembley appearances to his name joined United originally at the start of the 2017-18 season, making 10 appearances, scoring 3 goals.
He returned to the club in August 2019, under the guidance of manager Paul McNally and was part of the Skem side that reached the First Round of the FA Cup last season.

“I have been at Skem now over 2 years and have made lots of friends throughout the club but now is the time to move on. As many of you are aware I have been taking my Coaching badges and this is a step to help me achieve those goals.”

Brodes will be most remembered for his stunning goal against Winsford in 2019, along with the never forgotten headed net buster against Padiham at the JMO.

Manager Paul McNally has said “Richard has been an integral part of the club for the past few seasons and we are sorry to see him go, he has been an inspiration behind the scenes. I wish him well in his future development and I will give him all the help he needs to achieve his goals”

Chairman Paul Griffiths said “it will certainly be a bit quieter without Richard, his enthusiasm for the game shone through, I have no doubt that he will succeed in his quest to gain his coaching badges and he will always be part of the Skem United family”

The Gateshead born striker, a die hard Sunderland supporter said “Skem have given me many memories and I am proud to say I played for this club, I wish them well in the quest for promotion this season and beyond”

Richard recently completed 50 games for the club scoring 11 goals, his last against Wythenshawe a few weeks ago.

Everyone here at Skem wishes the “Big man” well in the future.
