EARLY GOAL ENOUGH FOR SKELMERSDALE
SKELMERSDALE UNITED 1 WITTON ALBION 0
By Neil Leatherbarrow
A third minute Danny Wisdom strike was enough to extend Skelmersdale’s lead at the top of the Evo-Stik Premier Division to six points at Stormy Corner, in a game that arguably they might have had wrapped up by half-time.
Pouncing on a shot from Aidan Kirkbride, Wisdom turned and shot into the Witton net from 12 yards and more goals were expected to follow. However, a little bad luck in front of goal gave Witton hope.
Kenny Strickland hit the post, while both Connor McCarthy and Tom Ince were kept out by Albion goalkeeper Danny East before the interval.
In the second-half Witton rallied but in truth were kept at arms-length by a Skelmersdale defence who controlled matters well. Cliff Moyo briefly threatening for Witton until a great tackle by Rob McIntosh thwarted his hopes and down the other end McCarthy went desperately close with an angled drive for Skelmersdale.
