UNITED MAKE IT 3 ON THE BOUNCE
Skelmersdale United 1-0 Mossley

Skelmersdale United produced another gritty performance on Saturday when they over came 2nd in the NPL West Division Mossley 1-0 at the Burscough Community Stadium.

In a game of very few clear cut chances it was winger Elliott Morris who brought out the best in visiting keeper Tom Watson, first in the 15th minute when a stinging drive was well turned away and 5 minutes later again bringing the best out of Watson.
United defended well in numbers with Grogan, Hont and Herbert snuffing out any of their opponents threat.
Mason Fawns went closest for Mossley his shot just before half time looked to have crept in at the near post but the away fans were left disappointed as the ball grazed the outside of the post.

The second half was again a tight affair with both keepers been rarely troubled, until the final 10 minutes when United substitute Matty Hamilton found space in the box to nod down a corner that found the net with Watson well beaten to give Skem the edge.
Mossley came back and a few late stops from United's No 1 Sam Ashton, a league winner with United back in 2013 returning to the club after a gap of 9 years ensured United kept a clean sheet for the first time this season.

Asst Manager Michael Smith commented after the game "to see how much joy wins like this mean to the backroom guys is unbelievable. We'll lose loads of games but when you beat a really good side and deserve it and see smiles on the supporters and volunteers faces, it's priceless"
The result puts United within touching distance of the leaders and a win next week could see them level on points with Mossley, however it wont be an easy tie as they are away and face Leaders Macclesfield
