It started brightly with super poacher Ste Milne grabbing an early lead after just 7 minutes as United just about bossed the opening exchanges.
Trafford are a big well organized side and came back level when former "Blue" Max Hazeldine produced the goal of the game, a stunning acrobatic shot inside the box that left Ashton stranded on 27 minutes.
A few weeks ago United would have crumbled, they are made of sterner stuff these days and fought back instantly, a charging run into the box from Declan Mcloughlin saw the youngster power home is second goal of the week to put United back in control.
Skem had to with stand some intense pressure early in the second half, youngsters Jasper Newton & Harry Hagen stood firm alongside veteran Bell & Jackson, who are looking to be good investments as Brodie rebuilds his squad, there was not much any of them could do as a cross from Fleming found Bentham in the box who powered home from close range on 55 minutes.
Again it was Skem who dusted themselves down and went on the attack a Elliott Morris solo run saw him upended in the box and the young winger duly smashed home from the spot for his 13th goal of the season. Skem hung on, a late effort from the hosts saw Ashton gather comfortably and United claimed their 9th point away from home in the past 3 matches.
Richard Brodie was hoarse after the game and left the summing up to Assistant Michael Smith "it was a good performance, to come here and get three points is massive for our ambitions going forward, we had a tough game on Saturday and forced into a number of changes but the lads again gave all, a couple of weeks ago we would have probably lost this game but we are building up slowly, we now have to take this away form into our games at Burscough and start picking up points there"
United will face 1874 Northwich this coming Saturday 4th Feb with a 3pm kick off at Burscough Community Stadium Chairman Gordon Johnson has urged fans to get behind the team, "I know its difficult for some to get to Burscough, its not the easiest place to get to, especially just 5 miles away, but if you can get down, get behind the boys and see where this journey takes us, we are not the finished article but what the lads are doing out there is giving 100% effort every game"
