UNITED BLOWN OFF COURSE

UNITED BLOWN OFF COURSE
CORBY TOWN 3-0 SKELMERSDALE UNITED

Skelmersdale United travelled 152 miles South on Saturday, buoyed by their first win under New Boss Alan Rogers on Tuesday. United's efforts were blown of course in a swirling wind that the home side played full advantage of although the strong wind played no part in the first goal as Jordan Crawford dribbled through a crowded penalty area and fire in at the far post, it was a well taken goal.

United lost the services of both Steve Gillespie and Nathan Randell within a few minutes and as United reshaped Crawford again pounced for the hosts, after 27 minutes a long diagonal ball held up in the wind allowed winger to run onto and cross for Crawford to net his and Corby's second.

The third goal came just before half time and the wind did cause problems, a free kick just on the edge of the box was floated over It looked like going out of play but the gusty wind held the ball up and 6ft 6 defender Aaron Brown stopped to head home unmarked.
Corby deserved their three goal lead, United had not really been at the races.

The second half started with United on the front foot as a free kick from Max Allen forced the keeper into tipping the ball over the bar, just when it looked like the wind could have provided Skem with a early boost, United for the second half, played the better football of the two sides, they had Corby looking to catch United on the break and pushed and probed but couldnt get that all important first goal that might have changed the outcome. Second Half substitute Seb Bradshaw was excellent in midfield Ramirez Howarth, Steve Irwin and Jack Watts all went close for United but the goal would not come.

My Man of the Match Cameron Glennon (ABOVE) played well throughout but was booked for a tackle late on, running 30 yards cross field he timed his tackle to perfection on to see the refs card in his face, it just about summed up the day
On the performance Corby deserved all three points but United put up a real show in the second half. It will be pleasing to see for Alan Rogers but 3 points in a much needed win would have been better.

As Ron Atkinson once said "I never comment on referees... and I'm not going to break the habit of a lifetime for that prat!"
