Tadcaster Albion 1 Skelmersdale United 2

Skelmersdale United claimed back-to-back league wins as Dave Powell's side secured their first away league win with a 2-1 victory over Tadcaster Albion at the i2i Stadium in a game that felt the effects of Storm Brian.

United welcomed two new signings into the travelling squad with goalkeeper Callum Roberts (youth loan from Preston North End) and defender Jack Fleming being handed their debuts. The hosts started the brighter of the two sides with Josh Greening forcing strong saves from Callum Roberts in the first five minutes.

However, it was United who made the first breakthrough as Alaster Redmayne completed a well-worked passing play by hitting a low shot which deflected of Taddy defender Josh Barrett to evade 'keeper Greg Hartley into the bottom corner. The hosts responded with Greening being denied by Roberts for a third time after a clever flick. Taddy had a great chance to draw level when Lawrence Hunter swept over a free-kick which saw Tom Corner supplying Andy Milne, the resulting shot was fired straight at Roberts.

Josh Barrett and Tom Corner both saw their volleys fail to trouble Roberts while United other than forcing routine saves from Hartley did'nt threaten to extend their lead which in the mixed conditions remained into the half-time break.

The second half began with the hosts hold the majority of possession with chances at a premium, two shots blazed over the United goal in the first ten minutes. The win aided the hosts in their crossing with Aiden Savory and Corner connecting to chances but in doing so being cleverly stopped by United centre-back pairing of Liam Hollett and Callum Jones.

The sides were level on 66 minutes as a clearance from Jones cannoned off Taddy forward Pete Davidson who went on to chase the ball and force Roberts to advance from the goal, however a pressured clearance saw the ball fall to Greening who lifted the ball over Roberts into an open net despite an attempted goal-line clearance from a United defender.

After a tumultuous 24 hours for the club,United looked to have something to celebrate as Rob Bourne spied a run and picked out Andy Owens who having caused chaos for the Taddy defence all afternoon, scuffed a shot which cannoned off the post but to his luck,Chris Howarth was unable to clear leaving United's top scorer to slot in the rebound to the joy of the travelling fans.

In the final minutes of the game, Taddy came achingly close to denying United the win as a cross from Savory saw Roberts fumble but to the stoppers relief, Milne was unable to hit the target. The final whistle sounded and United were able to celebrate their first league win of the season on the road and back-to-back wins against higher placed opposition.
