BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Skelmersdale United 3-1 Litherland REMYCA
United were back at home @JMO on Monday, when they entertained pointless REMYCA but they were in for a rude awakening after just two minutes, a defensive mix up at the back allowed Hilditch to slot home for the visitors and United fans feared another afternoon of endurance.
United failed to get out of first gear until the 25th minute a sweeping move saw Elliott Morris shot smartly saved by O’Loughlin, 2 minutes later it was the REMY defence that came to the rescue as Adegbenro shot was cleared. Danny Mitchley got in on the action on 30 minutes his curling shot just evading the far post. Litherland did have some pressure and Ben Barnes did well to push out a shot from Owens out for a corner, United went in at the break 1-0 down
Abdul Djalo had a shot saved in the first minute of the second half and Baba Conteh did one better as he beat the offside trap to slot home for 1-1 on 55 minutes, from then on, Skem stepped up a gear, O’Loughlin was kept busy with shots from Croughan and Strickland, United put their noses in front on 70 minutes, Danny Mitchley, a threat all afternoon got to a far post of a Callum Preston cross to casually head home
United’s work for the afternoon was complete, a raking through ball from Mikey Howard found Conteh who again advanced on the keeper and drilled the ball in for 3-1 and game over.
United overcame a slow start to claim all three points and now look forward to the FA Cup tie at Radcliffe next Saturday with renewed optimism
