Another pre-season win in front of a large crowd.

SKIPTON 38 – WIGAN 21

A good crowd came to watch Skipton’s 2nd pre season match against Wigan on Saturday who were better matched opponents than Halifax in the previous week. With some key players missing and Jonathan Richards picking up an injury in the warm up, it was a good opportunity for some of the club’s new signings to show themselves and players returning from long term injuries. The match was played in four sessions of 20 minutes.

Paddy Murray opened up the scoring early on with Darren Howson converting but Wigan soon replied with a converted try of their own. With Darren on good kicking form, a penalty put Skipton back in the lead and Wigan were denied any further scoring until the last 20 minutes when they scored 2 tries. Lucas Wootton was as speedy and cheeky as ever, adopting the swan dive to score one try and a somersault for his 2nd try. There was an impressive performance from Alex Farquar, who at over 50, showed the youngsters he was still a force on the pitch and he fervently maintains that he scored Skipton’s 2nd try of the day, getting a touch on the ball before Sam Boatwright! Paddy Murray scored his second try of the day in the 3rd quarter and had an all round powerful performance at no. 8. Jordan Emmison impressed with his commitment and work in defence on the day. This was a good performance from Skipton, the hard work in training paying dividends with good scrummaging and strong, open play from the backs. Skipton’s team boasted four sets of brothers – the Oldfields, the Willshers, the Boatwrights and the Murrays!
We look forward to travelling to Keighley on Sunday for the 1st round of the Yorkshire Shield – kick off at 4pm
