Sleights slip past Dale in tight opener

Sleights kicked off with a tight opening day victory, at Ryedale, on Wednesday night.

Before the game, there was an impeccably-observed minute's silence, in memory of Sleights' former secretary and full-back Chris Warrior, preceded by some fine words from referee Dave Purdy.

Harvey D'alquen put the hosts ahead and it took a big second half fightback to turn things around for Ed Turner and Jordan Jackson-Bailey's men.

Skipper Charlie Smith as often is the case popped up with the equaliser and Tom Shrimpton secured the victory with a late winner, though Dale were listing it as a Jamie Heritage own goal.
