SLOANE SUNDAY'S LOSE OUT ON TITLE

SLOANE SUNDAY'S LOSE OUT ON TITLE

Steve Pigott28 Mar 2011 - 17:44

Sloane needed a double win this Sunday, to hold onto their chances of winning the league....

So the big double header against Sandmere was played at the weekend.

Sloane still had a chance for the league crown and needed to win all their remaining games. However Jeff's Chippy who started the day needing a win to take the league title were playing Shepherds Tuesday away. A team that Sloane had beaten 6-1 previously.

Sloane had quite a few key players missing from the squad for what was the biggest game of the year and some new faces in the side.

Gav had to pull out after picking up an injury on Saturday, Ben and Simon were both away. Azza was injured too. As for league top goalscorer Barry Henderson... he was AWOL despite my efforts to call him every 45mins from 9:30 that morning.... disappointing!

Sloane recruited a couple of players who had played 90mins the day before for the Saturday side and had a good mix of young and experienced players. Sandmere were beatable but were they beatable over two games?

The first game didnt go well passing was poor, communication was non-existent and we were punished for this. Sandmere went 2 up, Sloane were given a penalty in the 2nd half which was coverted by Samir and felt a chance to capitalise, however a 3rd and final nail in the coffin was scored and cancelled out any chance of Sloane getting back into the game. Sloane lose 3-1.

No news from Chippy as yet... but they would now only need a draw to win the league.

The 2nd game of the day saw Sloane play for some pride, a slightly different starting 11 gave Steve Pigott his first start on pitch for the side. Sloane were more confident and dealt with the long ball better this time around. It was a through ball from captain Stef Willis that fell at Pigott's feet who held off their defender and lobbed the outcoming keeper. 1-0 to Sloane. His 1st goal for the Sunday side. Sandmere did have a hat full of chances and Anthony managed to clear the ball off the line twice over the two games.

So a win and a loss, how did Chippy get on? Well we heard on that Jeff's Chippy did get the draw 2-2, which meant they won the league.

So this week is Rio Kaiserlautern, currently sitting in 2nd and it is them we have the battle with for the runner-up spot.
