On Sunday, 17th August, Slough RFC’s Walking Rugby team took part in their very first friendly fixture against Reading RFC. Having formed just six months ago, the team has grown from no players to a thriving squad ready to take on new challenges—and this match was the perfect showcase of their development.
The game started with Slough initially on the back foot, but as the minutes passed, the team began to find their rhythm. James Hammond got the scoring underway with Slough’s first try, quickly followed by Lawrence, demonstrating how well the team had learned to work together.
It was a pleasure to see players relishing their roles: Les brought his quick hands and youthful energy back to the field, while captain Karishma McKendrick commanded the line with focus and enthusiasm, leading the team through every phase of play.
Reading RFC were full of praise, with Paul commenting that Slough are welcome back anytime to continue developing their game. This friendly match highlighted not just skill, but teamwork, determination, and a fantastic team spirit.
