Refreshed after a week's rest the Greenies made a promising start with some great breaks and strong runs whilst proving dominant in the line-outs, just not quite cutting the mustard until a collapsed scrum gave Jack Jones the chance to open the scoring with a penalty in front of the posts (0-3)
Another penalty to Slough soon followed, Jones doing the honours once again (0-6)
Hungerford started to look dangerous towards half time, making their way over the line before spilling the ball; Joe Sole quickly kicking it out to end the first half Hungerford 0 – 6 Slough
A yellow card for Luke O’Hara led to the home team kicking 3 points before Jones’ boot got busy once more- two penalties adding a further 6 points to the visitors tally( 3- 12)
Hungerford’s no 13 then crossed the whitewash to score the game’s only try, the extras successfully kicked to finish the game Hungerford 10 Slough 12.
FT: Hungerford 10 - 12 Slough
Thank you to Louise Flisher for the above.
Note from Head Coach Darran Brown:
Although on paper the squad available was not the strongest we could have had, based on a whole side being injured or not selectable. The guys who stepped up, stood up and showed that they are more than capable, I would not hesitate to assemble this match day squad again going forward. It has a tough inner belief and will only get better. They were forced to trust and play with fun and use their personal skill sets, with no 'safety' options to bail out on.
I am satisfied that we are developing smoothly and will continue on the right path, the players know their roles and style of play requested.
Today a few "boys" became "men". Which is very pleasing.
