Slough started the game strongly, attacking runs from Mikey Spandley and Robbie Morrison putting the ball into Chesham’s 22 where an early line-out saw the ball come out to Morrison who crashed it over the line just 8 minutes in. Converted by Max Miles (7-0)
Frequent scrums put both team’s forwards to the test, each winning and losing their own ball whilst pressure from Chesham through chip kicks and grubbers looked menacing but were effectively dealt with.
Sam Rowe made a promising break after a scrum but a last-ditch high tackle ended his run, the ensuing penalty instead allowing Slough 3 points to lengthen their lead (10-0)
Slough were then put on the back foot as Chesham strung together a good few phases to gain ground and force their way ever closer to the line. Encouraging support from the largest crowd seen at Tamblyn Fields in recent memory kept the home team’s heads up and a 15 man effort valiantly held up an attack that had managed to get dangerously close to the line.
Frequent mishandling led to more scrums and a scrappy game started to develop causing frustration in an already tense game and resulting in a yellow card apiece- Colby Short for Slough and no.1 for Chesham.
The lead still not looking secure enough, Slough took more attempts at goal- one of which the linesmen called differently- until Miles successfully slotted one over to lengthen Slough’s lead (13-0)
With Chesham now frequently up on Slough’s line, foul play saw Sam Rowe sent off before the ball was cleared to end the game.
The 13-0 victory over Chesham sees Slough finish the league in 10th place.
