Slough Mens 2s having already secured the league had beaten every team apart from this week’s opponents; Tulse Hill and Dulwich Diamonds. Slough started with an onslaught of shots within the first 10 minutes forcing the goalkeeper to make a number of acrobatic saves especially from the two strong strikers; Indepal Dhak and Romnik Nijjer who between them have scored 59 goals throughout the season. Nearing the end of the 1st half it seemed like we would finish at nil nil, until Slough scored from a short corner, goal scored by Sam Harris from a rebound which was assisted by Felipe Goncalves.
Dulwich started well in the 2nd half, levelling within the first few minutes however Slough showed why they won the league, scoring two, quick, consecutive goals from yet another short corner deflection. One from Sam Harris and the second from Felipe Goncalves : an international-like dive from an impressive through ball. Being 3-1 up it looked like the game was over but Dulwich went all out and tested the ever-present defence of Dil Davatwal and Rob Popplewell, forcing some impressive saves from the goalkeeper Taranjit Singh.
They eventually broke through with 2 quick goals to level it to 3-3. 2 minutes to go it would seem that Slough would not end the season with a win until they were awarded a penalty flick in the dying minutes of the game. Who else stood up to take it but Felipe Goncalves. Slotting it in the top left corner to score his 19th of the season. With the final whistle blown seconds after, Slough erupted in celebrations ending the season with an action packed game that even Slough MP Tan Dhesi came down personally to watch and to congratulate the team on winning the London League. Dulwich return this week to face Slough in the London League Cup Semi Final, which will surely be another exciting game.
