Fresh off the back of the final weekend in the Wilkinson Division where your Warrior Hockey UK sponsored Slough Jets

clinched the title away at Peterborough Phantoms with a 7-2 victory last Saturday, your Jets have no time left to rejoice as we now refocus on this Sunday’s National Championship final in Coventry.

The fixture sees us face off against a new opponent, the YKK Widnes Wild, who this year won the NIHL2 Laidler Division, taking 56 points from 32 games, finishing with a record of 28-4 (W-L) and a for and against of +140 (220 for, 80 against). It’s also worth noting that Widnes finished 6 points clear of second place, Telford Tigers.

A couple of names for Jets fans to keep an eye on include forwards Oliver Barron and Jakub Hájek who have a combined 150 points this season.

We have known that Widnes could have been our potential opponents for a number of weeks and we look forward to the challenge on Sunday. Widnes are relatively new club to the scene, having been founded between the off season between the 2012/13 and the start of the 2013/14 season and have pulled a top 5+ finish in every season to date, last season losing out to Sutton for the title.

A reminder to our fans that tickets must be purchased in advance and will NOT be available to purchase on the day, tickets are £25.00 for adults and £12.50 for children, this includes the Division 1 final which is set for a 5pm face off. If you are still looking for tickets, please contact Steve English as a matter of urgency at senglish@jetshockey.co.uk

If you are not able to make it this weekend, please keep an eye on our Social Media channels, Facebook and Twitter as myself and Wayne Box will be updating you all throughout the day with team news, goals and major events.

Timings for the day are as follows;

  • 11:00-12:00 - Steve English will be at the Skydome for ticket collection
  • 12:00 - Doors open for the D2 Championship Match, team news will be out around this time.
  • 12:20(ish) - Players on ice for warm ups
  • 13:00 - Division 2 Championship Match gets underway

To all Jets fans (and Wild fans for that matter) attending this Sunday, enjoy it!
Back your team and let’s show that D1 lot what we are all about!

See you Sunday!
