Smithswood took on Premier Division rivals Handsworth in a friendly at The Mackadown on Saturday 17th August giving them a chance to play against one of last seasons Premier Division teams to see what stage they are at ready for the upcoming season.
Smithswood attacked from the off and were 1-0 up within five minutes when Lee Harris fired his shot hard and low across the keeper. Smithswood's second goal was a quality move as they passed through the defence with precision to find Simon Hession who calmly put the ball in the back of the net.
It was 3-0 just before half time when Adam Rooke fired a long ball wide to Curtis Thomas who crossed for Simon Hession to get his second of the game.
Smithswood had plenty of efforts on goal hitting bar and post including a fantastic effort from Adam Rooke from about 30 yards which unfortunately clipped the top of the bar.
Pete Marshall broke through in the last minute of the match and was brought down in the area to win Smithswood a penalty. Anthony Short stepped up to bury the penalty and complete a great performance from the team.
