Last Saturday saw the mighty colliery face top of the table unbeaten (in the league) Sittingbourne.
With both sides already played each other earlier in the rugby calendar, in a tightly fought Kent vase game, both teams knew they were in for a hard game!
Although Snowdown came out on top in the cup game the colliery side were taking nothing for granted, as in the latter stages of that game Sittingbourne showed great strength and resilience coming back near the end with a brace of tries from their forwards showing why they have earnt the right to sit comfortably at the top of Kent 2.
With this in mind the red and blue hoops were focus on the task in hand, also knowing that a home defeat against their Kent 2 (fairly local) rivals, would effectively end the chances of claiming back to back league winners trophy.
The lads were warm, stretched and focused thanks to Snowdown's very own fireman superdad Carl "calming influence" Ambrose who put in another epic shift at tighthead. Not only dominating the set piece, but also making his presents felt all round the park smashing rucks and putting BIG bone crunching hits in. Much to the delight of the thousands of fans that braved the elements to watch this attack minded Snowdown team strive in the fiercely contested Kent 2.
In my opinion Snowdown's Front row last Saturday was up there with the best that Snowdown has EVER since if not the best.........oooooooh controversy (I know I'm going to get a lot of stick off the old boy's for that comment, but I don't care this is my OPINION and I'm sticking to it) and the rest of the pack weren't top shabby either...Snowdown knew what their strengths were before the game - set a game plan and actually stuck to it (for a change) . The plan was to keep it in tight with the forwards make the hard yards up through the middle of the park wearing down the opposition then releasing the backs cry to havoc and let loose the dogs of war!!!!
This is exactly what happened (I know I couldn't believe it either!!!) the team talked it through and not only stuck to it but everyone was committed to the cause and backed each other up 100% it didn't matter who was carrying or who was clearing the rucks everyone knew a job needed doing and got on with it - AND I LOVE IT WHEN A PLAN COMES TOGETHER ;-)
Jordan Ambrose stepped in at scrum half due to bans and injury's elsewhere and although was a bit shaky at the start after his nerves were settled only went and earned himself a well deserved MOTM newky brown - well done Jord absolutely superb - some might say its because he didn't have to catch a ball only pass it, but not me - honest ;-)
The backs also played alright and finished of a couple of nice moves - BUT only got the ball because of the way the Snowdown pack played so well led by the ever-present Captain Patrick the meat Broadhurst.
Same effort again this week lads - Greenwich away bus is LEAVING the club at 12:01 on the DOT.
Yours in rugby,
