Coronavirus – Cambridgeshire Grassroots Football Update 13/03/2020

As at 12 noon on 13th March 2020 there has been no indication from Public Health England that grassroots team sports should be cancelled.

The advice from The FA at this current time is that grassroots fixtures do not need to be cancelled as a matter of course and that any decision to continue playing or to postpone their respective competitions is a matter for each league as autonomous bodies within the game.

At this current time all Cambridgeshire FA affiliated leagues have agreed to continue with fixtures:

  • Cambridgeshire County League
  • Cambridgeshire Girls and Women’s League
  • Cambridgeshire Mini-Soccer League
  • Cambridge and District Colts League
  • Cambridge and District Sunday League
  • Cambridge and District Friendly League

However, the above leagues have agreed that in these extraordinary circumstances matches can be postponed by teams that do not wish to play due to concerns about the coronavirus or where players are self-isolating.

As you are no doubt aware the situation is changing rapidly. We are monitoring the situation closely and if any further advice is issued from Public Health England or The FA, this will be communicated to you.

The current advice for clubs is below:

  • Public Health England guidance should be read and followed.
  • For those travelling to sporting events overseas or returning from overseas to sports events, the Foreign Office’s travel advice should be read and followed.
  • Promote best practice for hygiene, ensuring cleaning is effective and soaps are provided (and sanitiser where possible).
  • Anyone with flu symptoms should avoid the risk of spreading their infection, whatever that infection may be, by staying at home and recovering.
  • Clubs are advised that if any spectator presents to a club member of staff with possible flu-like symptoms they should be encouraged to leave, return home and call NHS 111 for further advice.
  • For those hosting sporting events, whatever their size, attendees and participants should stay up to date on the government’s latest advice on how to avoid catching or spreading the virus.
