Soham came from behind to win for the first time in three games with a 2-1 home victory against Romford.

There were two changes to the side that drew at Cray Wanderers on Saturday as Martin Bromwich and Deakan Napier returned in place of the unavailable duo of David Prada and Conor Clarke, whilst Romford came into the game on the back of a 8-0 defeat at the hands of Wroxham.

The hosts started well as Stanley fired an early shot at Omand, before Napier looped the ball over the keeper only for it to come back off the post. Romford’s first effort came after ten minutes when the ball fell to Richardson on the edge of the area, with the attacker volleying wide. From the resultant goal kick, Brown received the ball before trying his luck from 30 yards out, with Omand parrying it out for a corner, with Stanley firing low at Omand shortly after. Boro then opened the scoring in the eighteenth minute when Imbert delivered the ball forward to Reece Cosson, who made a run into the area before placing the ball through Templeman’s legs from a tight angle. The Greens continued to press forward without really testing the visitor’s back line but did earn a number of corners, and it was from one of these Soham equalised when Dan Brown found space in the area to head home Napier’s corner. The striker came close to scoring again minutes later but volleyed wide, with Napier also coming close. Deep into injury time, Napier delivered a corner across the face of goal which Stanley and Brown failed to connect with, with Torres placing wide at the back post.

Minutes into the second half, Richardson collected Sharman’s misplace pass to take the ball into the area and to the by-line, but no-one was able to connect as he delivered it across goal. Soham scored when turned out to be the winner ten minutes after the restart, when from another Napier corner, Jordan Gent powerfully headed home his first goal of the season. The hosts had the opportunity to further increase their lead in the 63rd minute after being given a penalty when Ottley handed Torres’ ball into the area, but Omand guested correctly to save the spot kick. As the game progressed, both sides attacked without really creating anything, with the visitors winning a number of set-pieces around the Soham area. With five minutes remaining, both sides had appeals for penalties turned down, and from Boro’s appeal Hart had a goal bound shot cleared from in front of the line by Gent. As the game moved into stoppage time, Abbs ran onto Bromwich’s forward ball to go one on one with Omand, but the substitute unselfishly squared the ball to Stanley, with the keeper coming out to block the striker.
