Following the midweek defeat to Redbridge, the Greens handed a debut to Southend United youngster Kane Farrell, whilst Martin Bromwich, Scott Davis, Joey Abbs and Andy Palmer returned to the starting eleven, with recent signing Tom Warren coming up against his former club weeks after leaving the Essex club.
The opening stages of the game were fairly even although neither side created any clear efforts at goal until ten minutes in when Anderson fired wide from distance. Four minutes later Maldon took the lead when the incoming Mason Bloomfield blocked Warren’s clearance leaving the striker with a simple finish from close range. The goal lifted the Jammers who started to take control of the game with Gulfer twice trying his luck but placed wide or over from left sided deliveries. Soham’s first effort came midway through the half but Davis put wide from distance before the visitors doubled their advantage in the 28th minute when Warren was unable to hold Matt Gulfer’s 25 yard shot, with the ball rolling over the line. Shortly after, Abbs managed to get behind a defender to receive a pass only to put an angled shot over before Gulfer, Adewunni and Koranteng had late opportunities.
The hosts made a better start to the second half as Sharman fired a high shot at Bechet, while Palmer had a goal bound effort blocked. As the half continued Soham continued to edge the play, although there were very few clear chances at goal as both Gulfer and Adewunni had efforts from distance straight at Warren while Bloomfield also placed wide, with Maldon doing enough to play out time and record the victory.
