On-ice Workshop for parents and guardians before the start of the new season

A J Beal Webmaster8 May 2022 - 20:51

It’s no secret that coaches are a rare commodity at Solent, the EIHA are revamping their education programme and,

during this time, it’s not been possible to certify new coaches to join us either. We’re told a new programme will launch across the summer months, which will provide an opportunity to strengthen our coaching team ahead of the new season.

EIHA will also be introducing a new role of ‘On-ice Assistant’ as the entry level pathway into coaching Ice Hockey. This role is to provide support and assistance to the certified coaches running a session and help individuals grow the necessary skills, confidence and technical abilities on the ice to qualify in the longer term.

EIHA Level 2 Coach and U10 Head Coach Richard Facey has kindly agreed to run a workshop for parents and guardians who would like to help, with a hands on session including both on and off the ice content exploring the drills, exercises and technical skills and capabilities that we teach our junior members, and how you can help facilitate and participate on the ice to support this.

The session will run on the ice on 22nd May from 1530 to 1800, we will begin in one of the Party Rooms at the rink.

You will ideally be able to skate confidently forwards, be able to stop and have some competence in skating backwards, however if you are comfortable standing on the ice for sustained periods to observe (in skates), as long as you can be on the ice unaided, we’d be happy to see you, for you to learn and ask questions.

There is no fee for this event, but we do need commitment from 10+ parents to make this worthwhile. We are most interested in support for age groups U10, U12 and U14 in the first instance as there is the most scope for those parents to evolve and grow their skills over the coming years with their player(s), although if there’s sufficient space, we’re more than happy to have support from parents in the older age groups.

If you’d like to participate, please complete this form and your attendance will be confirmed by email and/or Team App: https://forms.gle/LSCmzQLQkRPw41Yi9
