Ladies 1s continue winning streak

On Wendys birthday the sun shone and the team arrived at Marlow in good spirits. The warm up was good until Kev gained an egg on her forehead. The team started strongly and it wasn't long before they were winning short corners. Sonning opened the scoring in the 4th minute from a corner when a loose ball was nudged by Pikey to Kev to finish off. Good passing was the secret for goal number 2. Maips hit out to Ruth was quickly moved down the left via KP to Wendy who advanced into the 25. She found Gallibird, who drew the keeper, and unselfishly passed back to birthday girl Wendy to slot home. Further short corner chances came and went as the Marlow defence were well organised and Sonning could not find a way through. Eventually a well thought out corner (thanks coach K) saw KP score at the near post. The second half saw Marlow come out strong and were quick to press and Sonning did not step up their game. Despite KP's rallying call asking for positive passing this was not forthcoming. Marlow had the better chances in the early stages of the second half forcing a couple of corners and even hitting both posts with one shot...did it go over the line - luckily the umpire could not find her whistle to blow to give the goal, much to the homes sides annoyance. Sonning did put together some good attacks and Wendy was at the forefront of 2 of these as she hit one just wide and the second smashed into the cross bar. Sonning defence were under pressure but Marlow were getting frustrated with the umpiring and Kev was taken out by one player who earned herself a green card. Sonning tried to find a 4th goal but they were not playing as well in the second half. The game finished 3-0 with a clean sheet and Sonning determined to play to their strengths next week.
