Coach Stuart Friswell says that Southam played the best first 20 minutes of the season (and the other 60 were not to shabby either)

Southam started up the slope against the wind, but still made several forays into the OW's 22 in the first five minutes and then opened the scoring with a good forward drive at the scrum, picked up and driven on by No8 Flo Neale, a quick recycle at the ruck and fly half Harry Hewson made a nice miss pass to full back Pete Burnell, who was wide open and walked in for the try, converted by captain Will Grindal. An OW's lineout on the Southam 10m was stolen by 2nd row Dave Harris and secured on the floor by hooker Sam Deeming and prop Will Bostock, the ball was spread wide and another lofted miss pass by Hewson found Burnell in space, Burnell drew the winger and Bench was off down the wing into the OW's 22, the cover caught Bench, but he fed back to Burnell, who smoothly fed wing Nathan Hooker for him to cross the line and round for the try under the posts, converted by Grindal. OW's replied with a penalty and Southam came straight back from the KO, forcing a scrum penalty on the OW's 22, the resulting lineout was driven on, a 5m scrum awarded and the Southam pack drove over for the try for Neale. From the kick off Dodds broke up to the OW's 22, fed wing forward Justin Urbonas out of the tackle, Urbonas went wide and was dragged down on the 5m, from the ruck Dodds broke and fed a disguised inside ball back to wing forward Liam Monro who walked in for the try, converted by Grindal. Southam's scoring continued getting centre Will Woods in on the act from a penalty on OW's 22, Dodds took a quick tap fed Woods, who streaked down the line, around the defence to round and score under the posts, converted by Grindal. Then came the solo try of the season from scrum half Lewis Dodds, at a Southam scrum on the half way, Neale picked and fed Dodds, who stepped 3 defenders in less than 5m, before breaking out into space, up to the fullback and stepped round him to score under the posts, converted by Grindal. As the half edged to a close OW's reacted with a catch and drive from a lineout recycled for the centre to crash over. But Southam had the last word of the half as winger Sam Bench secured a knock on at the restart, the forwards rumbled deep into the OW's 22, before a blind break from Monro who fed Deeming he sprinted 3m to score, converted by Grindal.

HT 8 - 45

Nearly from the restart a long kick was secured by Bostock, recycled and spread to Urbonas, who crashed through to score under the posts, converted by Grindal. Next from quick ball, Woods sliced the line drew the full back and fed a supporting Bench who had come off his wing looking for work, for the try, converted by Grindal. The tries came thick and fast in 10 minute period, from a line out catch and drive, replacement scrum half Jay Ellerington, sniped into space then spread the ball, Woods made the space with a neat show and go and crossed for his second try. At a loose Urbonas picked up, smashed his way through 3 defenders and broke through for his 2nd of the day, converted by Grindal. The scoring continued, started by a break from Monro, who fed Woods for his 3rd. The day was finished off by Bench, still looking for a share of the tries, supporting the opposite wing, took an inside ball to go low and crash through for the try, converted by Grindal.

A very successful day for Southam and a ego bruising one for Wheatleyans. Another game where 1 to 15 contributed in both attack and defence, varying the attack between the backs and forwards to tie players in and create space across the field

This five point bonus win puts Southam a point clear of Evesham, who still have a game in hand.
