An emphatic performance from Will Wood and the Southam team

Southam set out from the start to fully capitalise on this game with struggling Old Yardlieans and achieved the 4 try bonus point in less than 15 minutes. From the start, full back Will Wood broke down wing up to OYs 22, from the ruck, wing forward Jack Hewson broke the line and got deep into the OY's 22, the ball was recycled and a powerful surge by wing forward Pete Burnell took him up to the line and neatly fed the supporting 2nd row Matt taylor out of the tackle for the try, converted by captain Will Grindal. Jack hewson got the second supporting No8 Rich LLoyd Jones as he broke the line and going over for the try, converted by Grindal. A strong strip by Burnell recovered the ball on the halfway and the ball was spread and Wood entered the line from deep and a poor tackle let him through, he kept his head as he was tackled and fed wing Sam Bench out the back for the try in the corner. From the kick off prop Matt Catterall broke right, fed hooker Sam Deeming who put centre Toby Paige through for a 30m break. Deeming supported and was brought down on the 22, the ball was recycled and a precise cross kick by fly half Harry Hewson sat up nicely for Bench and he got his second in the corner, converted by Grindal to bring up the 4th try and the bonus point. 28 minutes in Southam got back down into OY's 22, with a penalty for mouth, from the lineout Catterall drove hard for the line, the ball was recycled and Hewson took the ball on toes, stepped back across the OY's forwards and jinked through for the try, converted by Grindal. 8 minutes later the ball was won back by young James Rawbone and the driven on through several tackles by Bench, the ball was spread and a wide pass by centre John Lowden was met nicely by Wood on the halfway and he gassed it all the way into the OY's 22, before stepping across the defence and feeding wing Ally Thorpe in for the try under the posts, converted by Grindal. As the half finished, Southam broke out from their 22 through Wood and Bench and they inter passed all the way up the line and Bench got his third, converted by Grindal.

5 minutes into the half, Wood broke out from his own 22 and was taken out after chip on the halfway, from the penalty, a Southam line out was driven by the forwards over the line for a try for Deeming. OY's put on some pressure, but Southam took it and Wood broke out from the Southam 5m up to OY's 22m, the ball was recycled and Catterall appeared in the line and broke through, Burnell showed good speed to support and Catterall fed him for a try in the corner. From the kick off prop Adam Rumble made good ground, the ball was recycled, spread wide and Paige jinked all the way up to the OY's 22 and fed Wood for the try, converted by Grindal. With 10 minutes to go, pressure on the OY's backs, saw them knock on, OY's stopped, but quick thinking Burnell, played the advantage and hacked up to the line and Rawbone gathered to take the try on his 1st team debut , converted by Grindal. For the last play of the game Wood got his second, from a Southam line out on the halfway, Wood entered the line and gassed passed the tiring OY's centre's and handed off the last man for the try in the corner.

A emphatic performance across the team with solid debuts from Rumble, Rawbone and Paige and a standout performance from MOTM Will Wood.
