With a large crowd expected for the Chairmans Day lunch and 3 returning players, Southam were hoping these factors would help them in finding there way again in the league. This certainly happened with a very large crowd, who at times were very vocal and got right behind the team. From the off Southam looked in control and within 10 minutes Southam scored a lovely try through Ed Ellis after some very good all round play. Unfortunately Tom Robinson missed the conversion. Southam's pressure however did earn them a penalty which Tom nicley converted. Although Southam continued to dominate the game seemed to stall in the way of points as some very good defending or some little mistake would prevent Southam from scoring, however Upton did get on the score sheet with a penalty just before half time bringing the first half to a close at 8-3.
At the half time Southam had to make a replacement to the front row due to an injury, but in the scrummage Southam continued to dominate, turning them over on numerous occasions. Southams support continued and apart from a little spell where Upton picked themselves up Southam never really looked like they would loose the game. Upton's bit of pressure did result in them gaining a penalty and closing the gap to 8-6, but Southam again found another step and finished off with another good try scored by Pete Bicknell, this just after he had been adjudged of two movements for a previous attempt. Replacement fly half Pete Burnell nicley converted the try.
Southam needed this win and can now hopefully continue this run and with players returning this will do no harm to their cause.
