Southam 39 - 5 Upton on Severn

On Presidents Da,y hosted by 'El Pres' Andy Mitchell and in front of a large crowd, Southam struggled to get out there own half in the face of a strong breeze and after 25 minutes, Upton forced there way over for a try in the corner. Southam replied immediately with a 40m penalty from wing forward Grindal. Southam worked there way into the Upton half and grub kick through to the Upton full back, was ripped away by the kicker, centre Burnell, who swapped some fine interchange passes with centre Woods, before setting winger Bench away for his 26th try of the season, converted by Grindal. Southam continued the pressure and won a scrum ball against the head in the Upton 22, which was taken on by No.8 Finch and then a quick recycle, saw it spread to Woods, who stepped inside for the try.

With the wind behind them, Southam had all the game in the 2nd half, they got possession in the Upton 22 and quick ball was fed to Burnell, who shipped it to winger Hooper for him to squeeze over for the try. Southam press again and a loose ball was snatched by Finch, recycled and fed out to Hooper, who skipped back inside up to the line, before laying the ball off to 2nd row Catterall, who crashed over for the try. Southam broke back again through full back King from a poor Upton clearance kick, he beat 3 defenders before the ball was spread wide to Bench, who gassed down the touchline, before being caught just before the line and the try was made certain with neat lay off to supporting Burnell, who strolled in for the try under the posts, converted by Grindal. At the last, from a line out, the ball was spread out to Woods, who gave an inside pass to King and he cut open the defence and rounded the speedy Upton full back for the try, converted by Grindal.
