Saints came away with the major honours at the annual Six a Side Tournament organised by Tadley Calleva FC held at AWE Aldermaston last Sunday. The Under 12s beat host club Tadley Calleva 5-0 in the Semi Final with goals from Cleo Rawlings (3), Tiffany Eley, and Hannah Knapton, and then went on to beat Down Grange 4-0 in the Final, with the same goalscorers Cleo(2), Tiffany, and Hannah.
The other squad members who all played well were Shannon Broadhurst, Hannah Richards, Coral Oakley, and Vogue Davies.
Saints Under 13s, who were entering the Under 14 Tournament, put in a really exceptional performance againt older stronger players, their extra quality shining through after some early setbacks. The Semi Final against hosts Tadley Calleva went to extra time, Saints winning it with a "golden goal", a long-range effort from Beth Whitehorn slipping through the 'keeper's legs a la Robert Green, proving that it pays to shoot! A tough Final against Down Grange was settled in the first half by a piece of class, Bonnie Browning quickly taking a corner and finding Georgina Axton on the edge of the box who swept the ball first time low into the far corner of the net.
Down Grange did everything they could to equalise but Saints bravely held firm against much bigger and quite physical opposition, 'keeper Lucy Venables making an outstanding save to tip over the bar a venomous strike that had goal written all over it.
Other squad members who all played their part in a magnificent achievement were Becky Tonks, Katherine Robertson, Ruby Collinson, and Grace Henderson who ended as the Tournament's top goalscorer.
