Portsmouth got off to the perfect start racking up 10 points in the first 18 minutes as Southampton took time to settle and made too many mistakes and gave away cheap penalties. One settled the visitors played some nice rugby and almost scoring out wide. Then after some pressure on the Seahawks line the Spitfires spun the ball wide for pacey winger Aaron Race to slip down the touchline untouched to score making the game 10-4. With the Spitfires back in the game they were dealt a knockout blow with winger Trail breaking tackles to score out wide on the last play of the half making it 14-4.

The second half saw Portsmouth once again score to extend their lead to 18-4. Paul Fudio then took matters into his own hands with a barnstorming run breaking 4 tackles to score. This made the score 18-8 with 25 minutes to play. Portsmouth then scored again as winger Trail rode the tackles to score in the corner making it 24-8. The Spitfires then had a comeback with hooker Charlie Price scoring twice from close range with clever scoots. Colling converted both making it 24- 20 but a final score from Portsmouth ended the contest making it 28-8 to the home side.
