The game was a close run affair in the first half with both team racking up high completion rates, however it was Reading who broke the deadlock first. A clever cross-field kick caused the Spitfires defence problems and from the resulting error and new set of six Reading crossed over to score and convert giving the visitors a 4-0 lead which was extended to 6-0 with the conversion. The Spitfires cut the lead to 2 just before half time when good hands out wide saw Sean Hayes break away and score. The conversion was unsuccessful leaving the score at half time 6-4 to the visitors.
The Spitfire started the second half better but mistake and poor discipline handing the Reading team excellent field position time after time and from the pressure the guests scored 4 more try's making the final score 28-4 to the new team in the league. In other games in our league Oxford beat Portsmouth 58-28 and next up for the Spitfires is a tough away game to Oxford this weekend.
