Southbank were set up in 1997 by three Reading FC fans, Mark Holton, Steve Fullbrook and Malcolm Everest and have competed in the Reading & District Sunday League ever since, reaching the Senior Division after promotion at the end of the 2008/09 season and appearing in their first cup final the following year when making it to the Madejski Stadium in the Tilehurst Charity Cup.
In 1997, when Holton, Fullbrook and Everest founded the club, Reading FC were in the process of moving out of their old ground of 102 years, Elm Park, and into the shiny new Madejski Stadium. When they were trying to think of a name for their new football club it made perfect sense to name it after The Southbank, the terrace they'd watched hundreds of Reading games from together which was soon to be knocked down for housing. And so it came to be that Southbank, playing in the blue and white hoops of Reading, were established in memory and honour of Elm Parks most treasured terrace.
For long parts of it's history Southbank has run two teams, with the first team consistently competing in the Premier Division and Division One. Currently run just the one side and will be competing in Division Two for the 2020/21 season.
