The South Dublin Swans kicked off their pre-season with a trip to Belfast for the round robin tourney, The Leprechaun Cup that has now become a staple in the AFL calendar with teams from the UK making the trip across the water.
The Swans faced off against our namesake the London Swans, reigning ARFLI champions the Belfast Redbacks and the London Giants.
A gut busting first game against the London Swans was where the boys blew off the cobwebs and got back into playing our style of footy. A slow first half cost us on the scoreboard but after a second half team talk we matched our rivals toe to toe. Similar stats against the Redbacks and Giants, slow starts costing us but growing into every game which is really encouraging going forward.
We know how to play, we just need more time on the training ground together!
A special thanks to the Belfast Redbacks for organising a 'rippa' day and we hope to return the favour in Round 1, throw-in at 1pm Bushy Park on Saturday, 27th April.
Everyone and anyone welcome to get down and support the Swans.
