Burnt Ash 1st XI: 3
Southend & Benfleet 1st XI: 1
Southend & Benfleet played second position Burnt Ash away for their first match of the year. They got off to a flying start from the get-go with Kirsty Edmunds pressurising the right wing. Within 5 minutes S&B had been awarded a short corner. Nicola Bryant injected to top of the D where Karen Burgess sent a precision shot into the left corner. Shaken Burnt Ash had to regroup but managed to put away three goals in open play by half-time. Captain Nina Dabbs decided to stay with the same formation for the second half and the Southend & Benfleet defence managed to stop any Burnt Ash attempts on goal, earning Rachel Jeffery player of the match. However they were unable to make any real headway in attack and so the score remained at 3-1.
