Southend & Benfleet played their first division 2SE match against Upminster.
Goalkeeper Lisa Hawkins was persuaded to come out of retirement. The young
away side were full of energy and S&B had to play more defensively. A change
of tactic at half time paid off as S&B were awarded a penalty corner and
captain Chloe Syvrett scored. Upminster continued to pressurise for an
equaliser and midfielder Adele Cole was kept busy. However an incredible
goal by Lily Cole gave the home team the 2-0 win. Nina Dabbs slammed a ball
into the D and Cole managed to get a touch on it to ping the ball top right.
