Southend and Benfleet 2nd XI – 4 (Hannah Daish, Claire King, Anna Winfield)
Oakway – 0
The 2s hosted bottom of division Oakway but it was no walkover. The visitors came out strong but the home side managed to make it 2-0 by half time with goals from Hannah Daish and Claire King. S&B dominated and sweeper Michelle Arnold picked up the troublesome Oakway midfielder, breaking up their play and forcing them to play long balls. Captain Kerry Payton tightly marked their forward, and Rebecca Utton and Anne Johnson kept play out of their D, as well as dealing with several short corners. Louise Marsack was voted player of the match for some great work in midfield, and another goal from Daish plus one from Anna Winfield gave S&B a convincing 4-0 win.
The 2s are still 2 points behind fourth placed East London, who beat Witham 5-2, making it tight at the top and all to play for in the last five games.
