Southend & Benfleet 2nd XI - 3 (Kerry Payton, Naomi Barker, Jo Hall)

The 2s travelled to Old Loughtonians keen to get back to winning ways. And it was captain Kerry Payton who lead the way with a tight angled goal in the first half. Lora Sharples also scored but it was just as the whistle was going for half time so it was disallowed. The second half was more of the same pressure and not long before a goal came from Naomi Barker, set up by Leslie Tonking. Evie Collins was playing in goal for the 2s and although play was mainly attacking from S&B, she had to be on her guard and calmly pulled off a couple of great saves. The game was put out of Loughts' reach when Jo Hall got on the end of a bouncing cross from Lora Sharples and managed to bat it home from waist height. Sharples and Payton shared joint player of the match and the win sees them go 5th in Division 2.

Captain Kerry said, "It was great to be able to lead the team to our first victory of the new year scoring the first goal of the game and I was delighted to get joint player of the match. The team really deserved the three points after an outstanding performance."
