2s struggle against top of the league Thurrock

S&B Super 2s played a very tough game against Thurrock on home turf this weekend.

The match got off to a flying start with S&B continually fighting for the ball, and efficiently defending any counter attack from the Thurrock forwards.

Captain Louise Mersack regrouped the team prior to the weekend, and supplied her hockey army with some fresh tactics ready for application/advancement on the field. This appeared to pay off as with a quick run up the pitch by Charlotte Brookes and, the ball was played into the oppositions D, and a short corner was awarded for a foot. Super striker Claire King knew what she had to do, and as focused as always she received the ball at the top of the D and released her shot with full might into the oppositions right hand side of the goal.

However, Thurrock were not willing to let go of their fight and repeatedly pounded S&B’s daring defence line time and time again until the half time whistle blew.

The second half was very much like the first, but with the play switched between the teams. This time it was Thurrocks turn to take control of the game, and the opposing side hammered the S&B backline with short corner after short corner being awarded against S&B. Gallant S&B goalie Katie Keppel made some cracking saves, and ‘tough nut’ backline defenders Nicola Ellis and Claire Sutton managed a few cracking clearances when needed. However, Thurrock were determined and eventually ended the second half with 4 goals to their scoresheet.
