Southend & Benfleet 2nd XI - 3 (Hannah Tooze, Lora Sharples, Chloe King)
Wapping 6th XI - 0

Hot off the back of a very positive game against Chelmsford last week, S&B 2s were hungry for a win on home turf. Wapping are sitting bottom of the league due to imposed penalties and so are a much tougher opponent than their position in the league reflects and sent S&B home with a 2-0 defeat on their first meeting. S&Bs 2s have advanced so much as a team over the season, they are currently on fire and set out from the first whistle with an aggressive attacking line up to take the visitors by surprise and that they did. Wapping have some very skilled players but a strong central line from the back to the front of the pitch, S&B created space on both sides of the pitch and caused chaos for the visitors and before too long, Hannah Tooze put her mark on the game and cracked in an amazing goal. Wapping continued to battle back and made some great breaks through their midfield and left wing, keeping Claire Sutton extremely busy at right back but time and time again the defence saw any attack off. Liv Wyre, on her season debut for the 2s was on fire in goal and saw odd shots on goal, saving high balls off her pads and clearing any shot that came her way with powerful determination. Continued pressure on the Wapping D saw short corners awarded and as a reward for the persistence of the attacking line, Lora Sharples scored to move the goal line 2-0 before half time.

The second half saw a mature and text book performance from S&B, with Lily Cole and Charlotte Brooks running the length of the pitch tirelessly, time and time again, carry balls up the pitch and creating havoc in the Wapping third of the pitch. Wapping continued to fight back and put some strong pressure on the S&B defence and a goal mouth battle nearly saw a goal for the visitors but joint man of the match, Claire Sutton and Liv Wyre saw off the attack in a joint effort. After a period of end to end play, S&B were on the attack again and the persistence of right wing (and usual goal assister) Chloe King paid off as she netted her first, and very well deserved, goal of the season! Wapping could not come back from the continued pressure on their defence and the game finished 3-0 to the home team!

Captains Louise Marsack said, "I couldn’t have been prouder of the performance that every single player produced on pitch today, we’ve matured so much as a team and today was a shining example of what we can achieve!"
