Southend and Benfleet 2s had an action packed game against Colne at home on Saturday. The home side wasted no time in attacking and POM Neve Harrison scored from an accurate cross from Nic Bryant in the first few minutes. But Colne came back immediately and scored an equaliser letting S&B know this was not going to be an easy win. Soon after S&B were awarded a penalty corner which super striker Naomi Barker made sure hit the backboard. Neve Harrison fought well for another S&B goal but Colne were not giving up easily and came back again making the score 3-2 to S&B with still 15 minutes to go in the first half. Naomi Barker then scored her second goal of the first half with a cracking shot from the right but unbelievably Colne came back again with another goal making the score a tight 4-3 to the home side with everything to play for for both teams in the second half. After 15 minutes of play Naomi Barker scored her 3rd goal from a reverse stick shot and then shortly after her 4th goal from another cracking shot from the right. S&B were awarded a penalty corner with a few minutes remaining which didn't disappoint in the excitement stakes with Barker hitting the top left crossbar for Hayley Middleton to finish off and sweep into the goal. The whole team played brilliantly together by working hard, passing the ball round expertly and building up play leaving the final score a deserved 7-3 to S&B.
