Southend and Benfleet 3’s win 5-0 against Basildon 4’s in their first division 3 game.
It was a cracking start to the season for the 3’s. With a slight shake up to the team, only 11 players and no goal keeper for this week things weren’t looking good for the 3’s. New Captains Aimée Cole and Rachel Blades had been preparing for the game all week and were nervous to begin with but those nerves quickly went away.
Sarah Conway scored the first goal of the game, smacking the ball into the goal. Shortly after the 3’s were awarded a short corner. The girls had been practicing their new strategies at training and were excited to try them out. Our kicking back for this week Jordan Woodman came forward to help and walloped the ball into the goal bringing the score to 2-0.
Super 2’s player Lesley Tonking showed why she really is super this week by scoring the remaining 3 goals. Of course it wouldn’t be Lesley without throwing in some classic dives and a scrap with the goal keeper.
A special mention goes to Elle Mai Whieldon, nicknamed ‘Wheezy’ for her sprints around the pitch, chasing down the oppositions mid field and defenders. POM went to Lesley Tonking.
Team selection has not been published for this fixture yet.
