Braintree 2nd XI - 0 Southend & Benfleet 3rd XI - 0 On a cold and blustery morning, the 3’s started with bare 11, meaning usual defender, Jordan Woodman, played as a striker. She came closest to scoring when a hard hit shot was saved by a mixture of the goalies foot and the back of her stick. The majority of the first half saw the girls dominate possession and gain many attacking short corners. Although different tack ticks were employed, they couldn’t find a breakthrough. The few Braintree attacks were quickly broken up and defence turned to attack again. At half time, the girls hadn’t found a way through leaving the score 0-0. Such was the dominance, goalie Liv Wyre hadn’t touched the ball.
The second half followed the same pattern, Jo Hall, Mia Edwards and Nicole Rutter launches many attacks which needed a little bit of luck to break the deadlock but it was not to be. Towards the end of the game, Braintree has a couple of breakaways but Bex Utton and Anne Johnson stood strong. The only one chance they had to score saw Liv make a good reaction save pushing the ball over the cross bar. A mention must go to Liv Rutter, who at one point found herself against 4 attackers but she kept calm and broke up the attack on her own. Lucy Stowe and Rachel Blades read the game well and made many strong interceptions in midfield.
A frustrating game ended 0-0 with players of the match being awarded to Jo Hall, Mia Edwards and Lucy Stowe.
