The 3's had a very tough match on Saturday against the Brentwood Academy squad. The game was late in the day and many of the players were thinking about their evening plans but were determined to get another win.
Within the first half of the match the girls conceded as two of Brentwood's midfielders charged down the pitch and slipped a goal past keeper Fran Bates. The girls didn't let their heads drop and came back fighting fit for the second half. Within minutes a short corner was awarded and captain Claire King whacked their first goal in. Mia Edwards then followed up with a second goal which left the girls feeling confident. Unfortunately, Brentwood weren't going to go down without a fight. The defence worked hard to keep out the opposition's attacker and after a collision with defender Aimée Cole, Bates was pumped with adrenaline and made many great saves.
The final five minutes of the game saw the entire team join together to help the defender's against long corners and the match was nearly over when a short corner was awarded at the final whistle! The girls were all nervous as Brentwood tried to equalise but it was Cole who hit the ball out of the D.
The defence in this game were key, that's why Rachael Blades was awarded player of the match for making lots of great moves to stop Brentwood's players.
