Southern United vs Capital Football ended in 5-0 loss

A challenging game in the weekend, with both SU and Capital Football starting off strong. Southern seemed to maintain possession for majority of the first 20 minutes, however were down 2-0 at half time.

Ignacio Sande, head coach of Southern wasn't expecting such a high scoreline and describes it as; "a little misleading."

"We are disappointed but to be honest the end result was not a reflection of the game.

"We paid the price of missing the chances we did have, but the 5-0 score was more a reflection of pushing some players up and them scoring on counter attack."

Sammy Murrell and Amy Hislop worked well together, but were unable to finish with some wide shots and great saves by Capital's keeper.

"We are still proud of what we did because of the improvements made from last weekends game," said Sande.

"However, we have conceded nine goals in two games so there is something that is not working properly, and we will review that at training this week."

Southern's center back Hannah Mackay-Wright (#3) said she also felt like the team improved from the previous week, and were able to hold possession whilst playing the ball around more.

"It is always hard to concede five goals, and we were unlucky not to get a goal or two ourselves," she said.

"Capital are a strong side, and showed that they are really pushing for those top two spots this year, which proves the league is improving.

"Our SU squad is definitely starting to gel more, and now having most of our squad back together will keep our game consistent."

Moving onto next week, Mackay-Wright thinks the focus will be on becoming more clinical with their chances and tidying up their defensive line.
