Southern United have had back to back draws with a 0-0 to Auckland City and a 1-1 to Wellington Phoenix Reserves.

However, the men’s team will look to not drop any points at all as they travel to Blenheim for their match this weekend.

Midfielder Danny Ledwith was suspended from the game against Phoenix after receiving five yellow cards. The Irishman spoke about his thoughts on the game outside of the playing point of view.

He said: “It was probably a disappointing result, especially after the first half because I would say we were the better side – we kept possession quite well we just couldn’t quite find the end product. Then with the Phoenix going down to ten men we were kind of expected to win the game.”

Ledwith added: “So it was disappointing but there are some positives to take; obviously Andrew Cromb with another great performance and a goal to top it off, Chris Wingate back in the side which has been a long time coming.

“Just not being there is pretty hard. Just watching it at home on the couch just isn’t where I want to be. I just think of it as have full trust in the boys to get a positive result. Regardless of the circumstance, an injury or a suspension, it’s always hard to not be on the pitch,” Ledwith explained.

Now the team will be looking forward to their game against Tasman United this Saturday.

Ledwith said: “It is just another game to us, it isn’t a case of what happened previously, we are just heading into it looking to get three points. With how close it is across the whole league one or two wins at this stage is huge.

“They had an excellent result against Eastern Suburbs last weekend, so we know they are going to be a strong opposition to play against. It is going to bring them a lot of confidence but on the day it doesn’t really matter, it’s all about the quality on the day,” he added.

Tasman and Southern will kick-off at 4pm on Saturday 18 January at Lansdown Park. The game is being shown live on Sky Sports 7.
