Off the back of a 6-0 win over Central in their opening game of the season, Head Coach Ignacio Sande is feeling pretty positive.

He said: “We trained very well. I think one of the successes was the preparation we put into that match.

“It’s great to have so many goal scorers from the match, it’s a great sign for us!” Sande added.

Heading into this Sunday’s game, which sees the United girls travel for their first away game of the season, they will face WaiBOP, who haven’t had as much as a positive start compared to Southern having lost 3-0 at home to Auckland.

Sande is assured that the team are feeling very prepared ahead of the game. He said: “We have the luxury of travelling the night before so we can get a good night’s rest so we are ready for Sunday.”

The girls have been hard at work in training explained Sande. He said: “We have been working on some combinations for up front as last week I thought it was a little slow. We always believe we can win every game and I think we are ready to put on a good performance.”

Despite losing in their opening game, Sande believes WaiBOP could bounce back from it effectively. He explained: “I’m sure their coaching staff are analysing their last game, you tend to be able to learn more from a loss so I’m sure they will make it a very challenging game on Sunday.”

The team that will be travelling is as follows: 3. Kelsey Kennard, 5. Lena de Ronde, 6. Rose Morton, 7. Chelsea Whittaker, 8. Renee Bacon, 10. Amy Hislop, 11. Emily Morison, 12. Erin Roxburgh, 14. Hannah Mackay-Wright, 15. Mikayla Gray, 16. Jordan Woodward (GK), 17. Ruby Anderson, 19. Juliette Lucas, 21. Samantha Richards (GK), 22. Kirsty Hayr, 24. Jade Middleditch (GK)

The game will kick-off at 12pm on Sunday 22nd September at John Kerkhof Park, Cambridge.
