Special message from captain Jack

Myself and Peter would like to thank those who sent through kind messages of support and donations in encouragement of our running the 6 Lakes Marathon & Half Marathon. In knowing that so much of our target was met prior to us running, we knew that would drive us to complete our respective runs to reward the faith in the sponsorship we have received.

But we thought it prudent to post a thank you to those who've sponsored, especially as we were running in the name of the Nightingale Cancer Trust. We thought it would be nice to share our history with them and show why we hope to continue raising funds for the them.

As was mentioned in the article prior to our run, our affiliation with them stems from the period they were supporting former member Mickey Bundle through the latter stages of his battle with leukaemia. In witnessing the good work they carry out everyday first hand, Mickey found himself drawn to help find a way to finance their work and out of it was born the first Southgate RFC naked calendar, unfortunately Mickey succumbed to the illness not long after seeing it's completion. But the idea continued and each year we still look to produce these calendars in order to help raise funds for The Nightingale Cancer Trust in Mickeys honour.

We managed to take this a step further last year; former, current members, partners, children and friends of the club were invited along to our Presidents Day and were encouraged to donate money towards the NCT as we remembered those who had been and looked towards the future of the club.

It's on that day that Peter and myself first spoke of running in the name of the NCT (as it coincided with Peter's own personal goal of running marathons in the Nordic countries). It was several months later when (over a few drinks) we committed to the 6 lakes and ensured to make sure we ran for the Nightingale Cancer Trust.

The rest of the story has been posted over social media and ensured we've never been shy of support of family, friends and teammates. In completing this run we hoped we've honoured the work that Mickey started years ago and it encourages people to continue to help fund their work.

Donations can still be made at the following link and we hope to not only meet the target but burst past it:

Many Thanks
