Seeing off St Albans

Due to our league game against Hemel Hempstead being cancelled we took on St Albans in a friendly. It was a lovely crisp sunny day when Southgate made the trip to St Albans.

The game started well with both sides making their first tackles count and testing each other with St Albans having the early advantage of possession, it took till mid way through the first half for Southgate to get their momentum and when they did like every game this season they made it count with Adam S going in under the posts a missed conversion made it 0 - 5. However Southgate discipline was getting St Albans back into the game and not long after a penalty try was awarded to make the score 7-5.

The next try came from Southgate when Samuel Saterlay got it out wide on the wing to put in the corner and a conversion to follow made it 7-12 and just before half time Adam S stroked the ball over from a penalty to put Southgate ahead at the break 7 - 15.

The second half started how the first ended and again a lack of discipline from Southgate gave St Albans their second Penalty try of them game to make it 14-15 St Albans then followed up with a penalty kick and another try to seem to put the game to bed with 15 minutes remaining at 22-15. However the surge from Southgate started and straight from the kick off a run through the phases from the forwards got the ball out wide for Samuel S to score his second try to make it 22 -20. Then again straight from the kick off a great solo run from Matt Brooks put Southgate in the lead 22-27 and finally the nail in the coffin come from Adam S scoring his second of the game to make it 22-32 At FT

A great game from Southgate however their discipline almost lost them the game. That's Southgate's 4th win out of 4 a start to a season that couldn't be any better.

Next week we face Old Millhillian's at home.

Team: Michael, Stefan, Lawrence, Shane, Nick, Johnny, Justin, Matt, Mark, Adam, Charlie, Andy, Chris, Sam, Tom.
Scorers: Adam (2T,3C,1P), Sam (2T) & Matt (1T)
